In May 2005 MedFASH held a conference Developing networks for sexual health services. Commissioned by the Department of Health, this event followed the publication of Recommended standards for sexual health services (MedFASH, 2005), which advocates the establishment of service networks as a means to improve access, quality and choice and to provide better integration of local sexual health services. In many areas, sexual health networks are not yet established or are still embryonic. However, there is much useful learning from those that have been in place for longer, as well as from other parts of the NHS which have adopted the network model. For the conference we brought together some of that experience and learning, to share it and to consider its implications for those who are starting to develop, or thinking of developing, networks for local sexual health services.
